Home Work.—Employers of outworkers (home workers) forwarded 63 lists in February of
last year and 54 in August, or a total of 117 lists, as compared with 125 in 1911, 154 in 1910,
and 177 in 1909. The addresses included in those lists numbered 544, of which 350 were
forwarded to other districts, where the home workers resided, in accordance with the Act.
From other districts 386 addresses (in 61 lists) of home workers residing in the Borough
were received, the number in 1911 having been 297 in 44 lists.
The numbers of lists received from other districts last year are shown below.

At the close of the year the registers contained 385 effective entries, being 4 more than at
the end of the previous year. The 385 entries comprised 125 "homes" which ranked as workshops
and 260 "homes" of single workers, the corresponding numbers for 1911 being 108 and 273
respectively.
Inspections.—The inspections of all descriptions numbered 3,076 last year (3,043 in 1911),
298 being first inspections (362 in 1911).
Ninety-one (91) workrooms were measured, or 29 more than in the previous year. The
numbers of nuisances discovered and dealt with in the course of inspection are given in Table 47
(page 85.) Six (6) notices of all kinds were served during the year, as against 15 in 1911.
Complaints.—The Home Office forwarded 15 complaints, 8 less than in 1911, the matters
complained of being :—

Deficient Ventilation.—The numbers of workshops reported to be insufficiently ventilated
in 1906 and each succeeding year are 3, 4, 6, 0, 0, 0, and 3. The workshop (laundry) specially
mentioned in the report for 1911 (page 81) was closed during last year, and the business transferred
to Kensington. One underground workshop in Westbourne Grove was closed on account of the
deficient ventilation, and special ventilation was provided at a large underground workplace in
Queen's Road.
Sanitary Conveniences.—These continue to be kept in a fairly satisfactory condition, but the
number of defects reported indicates some carelessness in maintenance.

Bakehouses.—At the end of 1911 70 bakehouses were on the register, 16 of which were
"level" and 54 "underground." Last year 4 underground bakehouses went out of use ; at the
end of the year there were 66 bakehouses on the register, 16 "level" and 50 "underground."
1 he 66 bakehouses left on the register included 13 factory bakehouses (5 "level" and 8
"underground"). Eighty-four (84) inspections were made during the year of the factory
bakehouses, and 430 of the workshop.
