earth temperature, rainfall, numbers of flies, cases and deaths. The data used in the
construction of the diagrams are given in Table 37. The figures in that table examined in
conjunction with the diagrams illustrate very clearly the great differences between the two years.
. *"Dying" means cases known during life ending fatally.
" Deaths" are attacks known to the Department through the registration of deaths only.
Note.-Five of the deaths included in the above table are excluded from the diagram for last year,
viz., 1 in week ending July 13th, 3 in that ending September 7th, and 1 in that ending November 16th. The
deceased children's attacks did not begin in the Borough, and their deaths occurred in outlying institutions.
The 129 reported cases included 65 in males and 64 in females. Among these cases there
were 14 deaths, equal to a fatality of 10.8 per cent., as compared with 14.7 in 1911. Of the 65
cases in males 5 ended fatally (fatality 7 6 per cent.; 13.1 in 1911), and of the 64 in females 9
had a like ending (fatality 140 per cent.; 16.5 in 1911). The sex-age distribution of the cases is
given in Table 38.
Among the known cases there were 59 in children under nine months, and among the
cases known after death 20. The distribution of these cases and deaths, according to the
method of feeding, was as follows :-
