Leprosy.—A death from this disease was reported last year. The deceased, a Jewish female,
aged 31, had been an actress, and the disease appeared to have been contracted in South Africa,
where she had lived as a child for some years. She was known to have been under treatment
for the disease as early as 1900.
The notification of leprosy was urged by the Borough Council of Greenwich in a letter
dated February, 1912. It was stated in a letter issued by the Medical Officer of Health of that
Borough that between 20 and 30 persons suffering from the disease were known to be residing
in different places within the Metropolis. A letter approving the proposal was sent from the
Council of this Borough to the County Council, who were asked to make the necessary
Order. No action appears to have been taken in the matter.
