Notification.—The adoption of voluntary notification of consumption has never been
recommended, the system being thought to be illusory. At the same time information of any
cases of the disease is welcomed, and since 1903 cases have been brought to the notice of the
Department in increasing numbers (see below) by medical practitioners and others.
