The numbers of deaths (for each sex) from the principal forms of malignant disease
included under the general term "cancer," with the approximate sites of the growths and the
age-distribution of the deceased persons, are given in Table 19.

MEASLES.
Last year was "an epidemic year " for this disease, 1,284* cases coming to the knowledge
of the Department, as compared with 592 in 1906 and 1,714 in 1905. As may be seen from
the statement given below the largest number of cases occurred during the fourth quarter of
the year, a bad time for an epidemic owing to the special liability to intercurrent respiratory
complications.
* In addition 27 cases of "German Measles"—presumably rötheln—were reported.
