The numbers reported in the Borough during each of the quarters of the years 1903-00, based on weekly

returns, are given below. For the first time the total of the weekly returns exceeded the corrected total for the year.

The largest number of cases (136) was reported from Westbourne Ward, the total for
Queen's Park Ward (134) being, however, very nearly the same. The statement below shows
how the numbers of cases have varied in the different Wards during the past four years. The
figures for the three southern Wards (Lancaster Gate, East and West, and Hyde Park) must
be accepted with reservation. In the other Wards, it is believed that the totals given are
very near approximations. In the former group the children attending public elementary
schools form but a small proportion of all children residing there, while the reverse
holds good in the latter groups. At present only a small number of the private schools
communicate with the Department on the occurrence of the disease in the schools.

An increasing number of cases are, however, reported by parents with a view to securing

disinfection.
