In Table 7 the numbers of cases of the principal diseases, as obtained from the Registrar.
General's Quarterly Reports, in the Borough and the Adjacent Districts, are set out, and in
Table 9 the rates for last year are compared with the mean rates for the four years 1901.04.
The local rate for diphtheria (including membranous croup) was 0.65—the lowest of all the
rates from this disease, that from scarlet fever 1.87 also the lowest, but in this case the
Kensington rate was the same. The Westminster rate for enteric fever (0.23) was the only
one below that for the Borough (0.30), while the rates for Kensington and Hampstead (0.02
in each case) for puerperal fever were the only two below that for Paddington (0.04). The
differences from the mean rates are, generally speaking, much in favour of the Borough.
