Thus there was a slightly greater aggregation of inhabitants in the phthisis homes than
in the Borough as a whole.
At the last Census 50.86 per cent. of the inhabitants of the Borough lived in homes of
less than five rooms. Supposing the incidence of mortality were the same in all classes
of homes, the number of deaths in homes of less than five rooms would have been 70, whereas
the actual number recorded was 121.
