There were reductions in the numbers of children, who were scholars, attacked both with
scarlet fever and diphtheria, notably the latter. On the other hand, there were increases in the
numbers of households sending scholars who were required to be excluded from school on account of
infectious illness in other members of the households. The figures for 1899 and 1900 are
contrasted below:—
