The frozen tongues were of Australian origin, distributed by a regular meat
supplier and cooked in the kitchen at Hither Green, four tongues being sent to
St. John's Hospital after cooking. They were the only obvious common denominator,
hence the tongue was investigated. However, no salmonella was isolated from the
tongue.
Two other cases were admitted to hospitals on the 27th and 29th of August from
the community but these were not found to have any obvious connection with this
particular outbreak.
