Together with the local division of the I.L.E.A. a conference was held at Adamsrill
Junior School for heads and teachers in the Forest Hill area on the subject of
health education in schools. Dr. E. Vincent read a paper and there was a good discussion,
followed by a question and answer session. At the same time an exhibition
was staged by the section of the material and help available to teachers. This was
the first of several such conferences.
Late in the year the section was involved in the public relations aspect of the
food poisoning outbreak, whereby, subject to the guidance of the Public Relations
Officer, the section handled all press enquiries.
The annual competition for members of the Health Department staff, in which
entries consisted of group and individual posters or models with a health education
impact, produced a most useful set of material for use by the section. The standard
was again very high and for the second time the Cup for the best group entry was
won by Kingswear Health Centre.
It must be emphasised that the most important work of the section is in helping
others, such as doctors, dentists, health visitors, district nurses, public health
inspectors, chiropodists, etc., to be health educators. In this part of the work most
encouraging co-operation has been received from every direction. Films, filmstrips,
slides, tapes, scripts, charts and advice are available to all members of the department
who in their everyday contact with the public are practising health educators.
The panel of representatives of the various health department disciplines continues
to help guide the section and also to provide material for the Health Bulletin.
