HOME HELP SERVICE
Heavy demands continued to be made on the home help service. There was an
increase in the number of households provided with help of the order of 4£%, the
vast bulk of this increased work-load falling on the Grove Park office in Baring
Road, S.E.12, which opened in 1968. As in previous years, about 90% of this service
was provided for the aged and infirm.
Difficulty was experienced in recruiting home helps to work in certain areas of
the Borough and there was a slight reduction in the number of helps employed,
the number at the end of the year being 626.
