Mortuaries
The two public mortuaries situated in the Borough serve other areas as well as Lewisham.
The number of bodies received during the year is shown below:—

Cremations and Burials
The following statistics relating to cremations and burials are for the year 1st April,
1967 to 31st March, 1968.

| Total | 1,489 |
There were 1,504 cremations carried out at Hither Green Crematorium after
certification by the Medical Officer of Health or deputy as Crematorium Referee.
Four exhumations took place at the Council's cemeteries following the necessary
Home Office Orders which specify the presence of a representative from the Health
Department.
