UNSOUND FOOD
Approximately 94 tons of food were surrendered as unfit for human consumption
and dealt with by the Council's food inspectors. This included meat, fruit-pulp, fish,
vegetables, etc.
Some of the spoiling was caused by refrigerator breakdowns.
CONTINENTAL GOODS DEPOT, HITHER GREEN
Imports of perishable food from the Continent through the Continental Freight
Depot continues, and a small amount of food, mostly meat, has been exported.
We are concerned insofar as unfit food or meat without proper documents may be
imported, in which case we have to ensure that it is either destroyed, not used for
human consumption or re-exported. It may be necessary to contact wholesalers and
various local authorities if it is intended for distribution elsewhere. The amount of
unfit food was small.
