PROPHYLAXIS
Immunisation against the following diseases was offered at health centres and schools
—Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, Tetanus, Poliomyelitis, Smallpox and Tuberculosis.
Children between the ages 2 months and 5 years were offered immunisation at
health centres and from 5-12 years in schools. Adults between the ages of 15 and 40
years were offered immunisation against poliomyelitis. B.C.G. vaccination against
tuberculosis was offered to all children in schools in their fourteenth year.
Medical practitioners in the Borough are supplied, free of cost, with poliomyelitis
vaccine for persons under the age of 40, and diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus
and smallpox vaccine.
