HEALTH CENTRES
Under powers contained in Sections 21 and 46 of the National Health Service Act,
1946 (Amended), the Council has decided to establish a number of Comprehensive
Health Centres within the Borough in order to provide a unified service. It is essential
that the range of services for an area should be contained under one roof.
At present, in many parts of the Borough health clinics are housed in old and
unsuitable buildings, and it is therefore timely to replan the provision to match up
to present day standards. Future trends in preventive and curative medicine must also
be allowed for.
The first Health Centre to be established will be that planned for the Stanstead
Road area. This will contain surgeries and examination rooms for six general practitioners,
facilities for ante-natal and child care, dental surgeries, a chiropody suite,
minor ailments centre, child guidance unit, home help office, and many other associated
services such as cervical cytology, family planning and general health education.
