These conditions imposed by the Council gave rise in many instances to applications
for assistance under one or other of the improvement grant schemes.
In connection with mortgage advances it is interesting to note that the Greater
London Council, when their scheme was in operation, made it a condition of an
advance, for properties which were likely to be in multiple occupation, that the
applicant consult the health inspector with regard to the requirements of the Housing
Acts 1961 and 1964 which govern this type of property. This is a very welcome
and worthwhile step and many inspections and reports were made during the year
in connection with these cases.
