ANTHRAX
During the year a case of Anthrax occurred affecting a resident of the Borough.
The patient concerned had a small business office in the City where he employed
one man and a girl. He is an importer of goat hair, but only he handles the
material. He was in the habit of receiving through the post samples of 1 lb. and
2 lb. of goat hair which had not been treated. If however a quantity of the material
is imported into the country it has to go to Liverpool for disinfection first, but this
procedure apparently does not apply to small samples sent through the post. It
therefore appears likely, that the cause of the infection was the untreated samples.
MEASLES
The usual biennial appearance of this disease in large numbers occurred in 1965
when 3,014 cases were recorded. This figure was not high when compared with
1963 (3,186 cases) and 1961 (5,678 cases).
