"Samples taken of icecream during the year show a high standard
of bacterial purity and the chemical analyses show a standard well
above the legal requirements. This satisfactory state of affairs is a
tribute to the manufacturers and the storage facilities in the shops
within the borough. The general sampling of food showed a gratifying
absence of adulteration and although one can readily acknowledge the
successful efforts made by reputable firms to put on the market
products of a high standard this can only be confirmed by regular
sampling.
"Complaints of foreign bodies in articles of food were fewer during
1956 and it would appear that these incidents, which are almost
entirely due to carelessness, are being affected by the higher standards
in food hygiene and the general trend towards cleaner food during
recent years."
