some deliveries of it consist of either too fine a coal or a coal which
contains too much moisture. In these conditions a greater amount of
smoke and grit is produced. At the end of the year therefore it was
decided to send a deputation to the Ministry of Fuel and Power, or
alternatively (if the Ministry thought this desirable) to the National Coal
Board, to see what could be done with regard to obtaining better
quality coal. This deputation took place early in 1957 when, besides
representatives of the Council and the Coal Board, representatives of
the gasworks were present, and it is hoped that, as a result of what
was said at the meeting, action will be taken this year to improve the
quality of coal supplied and that this will produce a further diminution
in the nuisance from the gasworks.
