Diphtheria immunisation mobile campaign
A street campaign was organised during 1948 and lasted two months.
It was held in order to offer immunisation to children who might not
be reached through the medium of the regular immunisation clinics.
The prophylactic used was APT, necessitating two injections, and a
van toured streets in the borough in the first four weeks, repeating the
same itinerary in the second four weeks in order that the second injection
might be given at the proper time. The van was accompanied by a
doctor, nurse and clerk and injections were given to children either in
the van or in their homes. Publicity was given to the campaign by means
of posters, cinema slides, leaflets, press announcements and by personal
propaganda on the part of the health visitors.
The final results of the campaign were as follows :—;
Completed cases (i.e., children who received two
injections) 635
First injections only 596
Total injections 1,866
Children who had received only one injection at the completion of
the campaign were invited to the immunisation clinics in order to receive
the second injection and so complete the course of immunisation.
