An investigation has been made into the number of tuberculous patients resident in the new Estates, with the following results:-

This great extension of the inhabited area of the Borough has
enormously increased the work of visiting.
Reports.- Written reports to the number of 1,278 were sent out
from the Dispensary.
Residential Treatment.— The London County Council admitted
243 insured and 117 uninsured patients to residential institutions,
while 34 patients were referred direct to the Lewisham Hospital by
the Tuberculosis Officer, these being patients in urgent need of
institutional treatment and living under unsuitable home conditions.
The Tuberculosis Officer visited the tuberculosis wards of the
Lewisham Hospital 45 times in the capacity of Consultant in
Tuberculosis to the Hospital.
Affiliated and other Hospitals.— For X-Ray examination 84
patients were sent to St. John's Hospital, Lewisham, and 108 patients
to the Lewisham Hospital. Films and reports of these cases were
received at the Dispensary and formed an additional aid in the
diagnosis of tuberculous disease.
During the last few years an increasing number of patients have
been treated, while at Sanatorium, by the induction of artificial
pneumo-thorax and on their return home the patients attend at
regular intervals of one to four weeks for refills. The majority of
the refills are given at St. John's Hospital, 92 during 1938. Where
more convenient for the patient, they are allowed to attend at other
Hospitals for the purpose. The total number of patients receiving
this form of treatment is 139. Light treatment for lupus is given
