Diphtheria Anti-toxin.
For the convenience of medical practitioners, anti-toxin serum
is kept in the Public Health Department, and supplied at cost price,
or, in necessitous cases, free.
During the year, 60 phials of 8,000 units each (for treatment)
and 4 prophylactic doses of 500 units each, were issued.
Diphtheria Immunisation.
The scheme under which facilities are provided for the immunisation
of children against diphtheria has undergone revision during
the year.
Under the original scheme, which commenced in 1935, medical
practitioners received 10/- for each child treated, but had to provide
the requisite immunising material.
The revised scheme provides for a fee of 7/6 to the doctor for
each case, the Council supplying the material.
The new arrangement as to fees came into force in October
of this year, and has given a considerable impetus to the scheme.
During the year, 1,027 children received immunising injections.
