Notice of intention to slaughter must be given to the Public
Health Department, and all carcases are examined before being
offered for sale.
During the year, the Sanitary Inspectors made 335 attendances
at the slaughter-houses for this purpose, and details of the animals
killed and inspected are set out in the following table, on the form
specified by the Ministry of Health:—

Unsound Food.—The following quantities of meat, fish, etc.,
were surrendered as unfit for food, and destroyed:—
