and the selected Home Help to meet at the patient's house. Home
Helps are employed for two weeks on each case and their work

district.
XII. —Obstetric Consultants.
The services of three consultants are retained by the Council
for consultations in cases of Puerperal Fever and Pyrexia as well as
cases of difficult or complicated labour. This service was requisitioned
only once during the year. Next year a weekly ante-natal and postnatal
Consultant's Clinic is to be established at the Health Centre,
Lewisham. To such a Clinic could be referred any case of complicated
or abnormal pregnancy as well as cases where recovery from
labour have not been satisfactory and require further treatment.
XIII.—Convalescent Homes and Treatment.
A grant of £50 was made to the local Branch of the Invalid
Children's Aid Association for the year 1937-38, in consideration of
the convalescent treatment arranged by the Association for children
recommended by the Medical Officers of the Council's Clinics.
Six mothers and their babies were sent to the Zachary Merton
Convalescent Home at Rustington for a period of two weeks, in
accordance with the arrangement made by the Council with the
Governing Body of that Institution.
The Committees of the Voluntary Infants Welfare Centres have
also taken their share in arranging convalescent treatment for
mothers and children attending their Centres.
XIV.—Home Visiting by the Health Visitor.
There were 10 whole-time Health Visitors engaged in Maternity
and Child Welfare work at the beginning of the year and three
more were appointed in the summer so that, since August, 1937,
13 whole-time Health Visitors have been at work in the Borough.
Each has a particular part of the Borough allotted to her for home
visiting.
