The nursing staff consists of a Matron, 1 Sister, 4 Midwives
and 2 assistant nurses who are resident in the Maternity Home.
The domestic staff of 1 Cook, 1 Laundrywoman and 5 maids is
mostly non-resident. In May, Miss Crowe, who had been sister in
the Home for 16 years, left to open a nursing home of her own in
Manchester. Her faithful and loyal service, given in a quiet and
unobtrusive manner over many years, was much appreciated by staff
and patients alike.
II.—Clinics for Expectant Mothers.
One fortnightly and five weekly ante-natal clinics are held in
the Borough. The fortnightly one is held at the Sydenham Welfare
Centre, Adamsrill Road, on alternate Monday mornings. Four of
the weekly sessions are held at the Health Centre, 410, High Street,
Lewisham, on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings and
Thursday afternoons and one at the Downham Centre on Thursday
mornings. During the year an arrangement was made with the
L.C.C. whereby expectant mothers living on the Downham Estate
who were booked with the Lewisham Hospital for their confinements
received their ante-natal supervision at the Downham Ante-natal
