Committee, numbered 264, while 157 cases were provided with
clothing. The Care Committee is dependant on voluntary help for
its finances and has, during last year received a grant from the
Sunday performances of the Gaumont Cinema. The Chairman
organised whist drives and other entertainments to swell the fund.
Direct financial assistance amounting to £268 5s. 8d., was given to
patients and their dependants. At the end of the year the voluntary
fund stood at £177 8s. 7d.
Handicraft Class.—This class has now been taught by the same
Instructress for 9 years; it helps greatly in keeping idle hands
employed and depressed minds cheerful. The pupils are those unfit
for regular work and well enough to attend once a week. The
articles they make are sold either privately or at organised sales and
the pocket money earned is an incentive to further effort. The
Borough Council gives an annual grant of £10 for this class.
Tables A—F give in statistical form a summary of the work
carried out at the Dispensary. Appended is the Table required
annually by the Ministry of Health.
