her own district. Table B gives a summary of the work of the
Health Visitors. The visits paid by them were 1,449 in excess of
those paid in 1933.
The Tuberculosis Officer paid 356 visits to the homes of patients
and saw 14 patients in their own homes in consultation with their
own doctors.
Reports.—Written reports to the number of 1,040 were sent out
from the Dispensary.
Residential Treatment.—The London County Council admitted
133 insured and 60 uninsured patients to residential institutions.
The Lewisham Hospital admitted 32 patients referred by the
Dispensary, these being seriously ill cases in urgent need of treatment
and having unsuitable home conditions. The appointment of the
Tuberculosis Officer as Consultant in tuberculosis to the Lewisham
Hospital has been continued and 45 visits have been paid during the
year to the two wards containing 26 male and 26 female patients
respectively. The Hospital is under the control of the London
County Council and patients from other Boroughs than Lewisham
are also admitted to its wards.

made at a cost of £68 5s. Od. In two cases pulmonary tuberculosis
was found by X-ray examination where it had not been suspected
clinically and in both cases tubercle bacilli were subsequently found
in the sputum.
Treatment by artificial pneumothorax has been found to be most

Department of St. John's Hospital. During the year 46
patients made 587 attendances at a cost of £308 3s. 6d. A few
