Rats and Mice (Destruction) Act, 1919.
During the year 250 investigations were made into complaints of
alleged rat infestation. In 128 instances, defective drains were found
to be responsible, and in 72 instances the contributory cause was
found elsewhere. The complaint was unfounded in 50 cases.
Smoke Abatement.
During the year 50 observations were made by the Sanitary
Inspectors for the detection of nuisances arising from the emission
of smoke, and as a result notices were served in 12 instances. The
institution of legal proceedings was not necessary in any case.
