Extension of Premises.
During the year certain necessary improvements were carried
out at the Maternity Home. The ward facing Rosenthal Road was
converted into an isolation room with bathroom and water-closet, and
in addition to this there was room for a lavatory containing three
wash basins. To accommodate the four beds displaced by these
alterations two of the existing wards were extended in the rear to
take three additional beds on the first floor and one on the ground
floor. A sterilizing room leading off the labour room and an admission
bathroom on the ground floor were provided. Additional
sleeping accommodation for the nursing staff was also provided at
the Maternity Home in lieu of the premises rented by the Council
at No. 1, Honley Road.
It was necessary to suspend bookings at the Home for three
months to enable the alterations to be carried out, and there was a
consequent decrease in the number of cases admitted during the year.
