Rateable Value.—The rateable value of the Borough at
30th September, 1926, was £1,330,882, and the estimated product
of a penny rate £5,400.
Births.
The number of births registered in 1926 was 2,885, of
which number 1,493 were males and 1,392 females. This
number represents a birth-rate of 15.36, which is, with the
exception of the years 1917-18, the lowest ever recorded in
this Borough. [

Illegitimacy.—The number of births registered of infants
born out of wedlock was 87, equivalent to 3.0 per cent. of the
total.
Deaths.
The total number of deaths of residents of the Borough
was 1,890, compared with 1,927 in the previous year. This
number represents a death-rate of 10.0 per thousand of the
population, and is the lowest recorded in this Borough since 1909.
According to statistics published by the Registrar-General, this
death-rate was the lowest recorded in any of the Metropolitan
Boroughs.

In Table No. 3, the causes of death are set out in detail,
and only the following items call for comment: —
