An increased number of visits to the homes of patients
has been made by Dr. Jordan, the total being 354.
Two outdoor shelters for the use of patients were purchased
by your Council. These have proved very useful, and
it is probable that authority will be asked to increase 'the number
of these shelters.
Sanitary Inspection. — Your Sanitary Inspectors made
20,147 inspections during the year, details of which are set
out in the report. House-to-house inspections numbered 1,402,
relating to 1,281 houses. In consequence of these inspections
2,096 Intimation and 494 Statutory Notices were served. It
is satisfactory to note that it was only necessary in one case
to take proceedings before a magistrate to compel compliance
with the Statutory Notice served.
The streets selected for house-to-house inspection were
particular streets where the houses were known, more or less,
to lie in bad condition, which accounts for the large proportion
of Notices necessary—883 Notices requiring work to be done
were served in relation to 1,281 houses. A large percentage
of the houses were sub-let, as will be seen in the report.
In conclusion, I should like to express my thanks to the
members of the Council for the consideration and support thev
have accorded me, and also to my colleagues and the staff of
my Department for their help and assistance.
I am, Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
July, 1925.
