To the Mayor, Aldermen, and Councillors of the Metropolitan
Borough of Lewisham
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit to you my Thirteenth
Annual Report on the Vital Statistics and Sanitary Condition
of the Borough, together with the Returns required by the
Local Government Board and the Home Office.
The death-rate for the Borough equalled 10.6 per
1,000 persons living, compared with 10.5 per 1,000 in 1912.
In previous years we have recorded the second or third lowest
rate, but this year we are in the happy position of recording
the lowest death-rate in the Metropolis.
The birth-rate remains practically stationary, the figures
for this year being 20.33 per 1,000, compared with 20.35 in 1912.
It is satisfactory to record that the infant mortality rate
equalled only 76 per 1,000, which, with the single exception of
Hampstead, is the lowest of all the Metropolitan Boroughs.
