VITAL STATISTICS.
Population.—The estimated population of the Borough,
based upon the Census returns of 1901 and 1911, is 165,259.
This figure is calculated upon the assumption that the
increase in the population maintained the same rate of
progression in the year, as it did during the intercensal period
of 1901-1911. The figure thus obtained, 165,249, shows an
increase in one year of 3,572. The increase in the population
by natural increment, i.e., the excess of births over deaths,
amounted to 1,786, and it is assumed therefore, that the
difference of 1,786 between the total estimated increase and
that shewn by the natural increment, is due to immigration
into the Borough.
The statistics contained in this report are calculated upon
the estimated population stated above.
During 1912 some further results of the 1911 Census
have been published. These show the number of males
and females in each Ward, the kind of building used as
dwelliugs, and the population therein. These particulars are
given in the two following tables.
