The population of the Borough at the Census taken on
April 3rd, 1911, was 160,834.
The estimated population to the middle of the year 1911,
based upon the figures given by the Census of 1911 and that of
1901, is 161,677, and this figure is used in calculating the birth
and death rates given in this Report.
The area of the Borough is 7,014 acres, and the density
of the population, based upc the atbove estimate, is 23 persons
per acre. In 1901 the density was equivalent to 18-8 persons
per acre.
In the years from 1901 to 1911, the population of the
Borough increased from 127,495 to 160,834, a total increase of
33,339 persons.
In the Catford Ward, during the ten years, the population
rose from 23,203 to 39,012, an increase of 15,809 persons,

great a proportional increase, although Lewisham Park Ward,
with an increase of 50 per cent., was very near.
