Domiciliary Midwifery
At the end of March, Miss L. Barber, who had been the non medical
Supervisor of Midwives in the area for many years, retired. It was with great
regret that we learned of her death while this report was in preparation.
The number of home confinements continued to fall, and this was not
balanced off by an increase in early discharges from hospital. The total
number of births in the borough fell as also did the percentage of home
confinements. Health Visitors were involved in a number of continuing
research projects although no major research project commenced.
