A wide range of subjects was covered including parent and child
relationships, marriage, friendships and choice of careers. One session was
devoted to venereal disease and a film "A quarter of a million teenagers" was
shown followed by group discussion. The girls took an active part in the discussions,
seemed generally interested and thought that the sessions were useful.
STUDENT HEALTH SERVICE IN COLLEGES FOR FURTHER EDUCATION
A student health service was provided during the year at two colleges for
further education. This is a service still in its infancy, but which, with the
increasing demand for further education, will undoubtedly expand. The service is
primarily preventive and advisory. Prophylaxis and B.C.G. vaccination are
offered to all students requiring them. Screening is by medical questionnaire with
direct referral to general practitioners for treatment as required. Health education
and group discussions on subjects selected by students formed a major part of
the activities. Individual counselling at the request of the students was given and
if required, referral for psychiatric help was arranged through the general
practitioners.
