During May and September 1965, five hundred and fifty five old people were
taken by coach to Margate for a week's holiday under the Council's holiday scheme.
His Worship the Mayor, the Mayoress and the Chairman of the Health Committee saw
all the parties off and visited some of the groups during their stay at Margate.
Two re-union parties were held in December. At the invitation of His Worship
the Mayor a group of Landladies from Margate with whom the old people stayed
attended the second re-union.
Administration of die scheme since its inception in 1956 by the Metropolitan
Borough of Lambeth has been carried out by the Public Health Department. In
future, under the London Borough of Lambeth, this function will be carried on by
the Welfare Department
