During the year 19 funerals were arranged involving 14 males and five
females.
The amount paid to funeral contractors was £234.18s.6d. The sum of
£176.10s.0d. was recovered by way of grants, insurance policies and money
found.
The actual cost to the Council was therefore £58.8s.6d.
LAND CHARGES ACT 1925
During the year 3,509 enquiries were received and dealt with in respect of
searches under the above mentioned Act.
PHARMACY AND POISONS ACT 1933
The number of persons entered or retained on the list under the Pharmacy
and Poisons Act 1933 (Section 21) Part II was 147.
RAG BLOCK AND OTHER FILLING MATERIALS ACT 1951
Twenty eight samples of various filling materials were submitted to a
prescribed Analyst for examination.
All the samples complied with the test under the Regulations for 1951.
PET ANIMALS ACT 1951
This Act provides that no person shall keep a pet shop except under the
authority of a licence granted in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
A local authority may, on application, grant to a person who is not for
the time being disqualified from keeping a pet shop a licence to keep a pet shop
at such premises in their area as may be specified in the application, and
subject to compliance with such conditions as may be specified in the licence.
In determining whether to grant a licence for the keeping of a pet shop, a
local authority shall in particular have regard to the need for securing
(a) That animals will at all times be kept in accommodation suitable
respecting size, temperature, lighting, ventilation and cleanliness;
(b) that animals will be adequately supplied with suitable food and drink and
(so far as necessary) visited at suitable intervals.
(c) that animals, being mammals, will not be sold at too early an age;
