SECTION D
SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA
Water Supply
I am indebted to Dr. E. Windle Taylor, Director of Water Examination,
Metropolitan Water Board for the following report on the water supplied to the
Borough.
The supply to the Borough of Lambeth has been satisfactory both for quality
quantity during 1964. The source of water supply is mainly River Thames derived
water with a small admixture of water from Honor Oak and Merton wells in the
summer months.
There were no new sources of supply instituted by the Board in the area
during the year, but new trunk mains were laid in Lambeth to the extent of 1,042
yards. There were no changes in the general scheme of supply in the Borough
but lengths of small service mains were laid to the extent of 2,427 yards. All
new and repaired mains are chlorinated before being brought into or restored to,
service, and samples of the water from them are tested bacteriologically to ensure
that its quality is up to that normally supplied.

The number of samples taken during the year was as follows
