2.—Infantile Mortality Rates.
Of the 3,865 corrected deaths, 395 are infants under 1 year of
age as compared with decennial yearly averages of 1358 5, 1020-1 and
6197 for 1891-1900 (Parish); 1901-10 (Borough) and 1911-1920
(Borough) respectively ; and 506, 496 and 357 total deaths under 1
year of age for the years, 1921, 1922 and 1923. Having regard to the
large population of Lambeth Borough, these figures mean an
enormous saving of life during the periods mentioned.
The infantile mortality rate is based upon the number of deaths
under 1 year of age per 1,000 births registered. Taking the 7,891
total registered births during 1924 (52 weeks), and the 510 total
uncorrected deaths of infants under 1 year of age, the infantile
mortality rate is 64-6, as compared with annual averages of 150-5, 123-8
and 97-5 for the decennia 1891-1900 (Parish), 1901-10 (Borough) and
1911-20 (Borough), and 8o-8, 72-5 and 62-1 for the years 1921, 1922
