MEASUREMENT OF AIR POLLUTION
The average monthly pollution figures for the Borough are shown in the form of two graphs. The
graphs compare the 1969 concentrations with those of 1968, both for smoke and sulphur dioxide. The
concentrations of smoke in the Borough have shown a general decrease indicating the success of the
Council's smoke control areas accompanied by a continuing trend away from solid fuels and an increase in
the use of gas and electricity. On the other hand, the average monthly concentrations of sulphur dioxide
have increased slightly.
