Mrs. E. M. Simms, Chairman for many years, resigned and Mrs. B. Stradling became
Chairman.
It was found possible to increase the amount given for food and fuel and many "Thank you"
letters were received from needy patients expressing their deep appreciation.
The mid-summer outing to Eastbourne, made possible by the generosity of the "Starliners",
who donated the proceeds of their Variety Show, was again a great success.
The officers of the Committee were:-

Mr. J. Buckle Welfare Officer and Secretary to the Islington
Chest and Tuberculosis Care Committee.

HOSTEL FOR HOMELESS TUBERCULOUS MEN, CROMWELL LODGE, CHOMELEY PARK, N.6.
The warden managed alone during the whole of 1968 as it proved impossible to recruit an
assistant warden. In spite of this, the number of men in residence at the end of the year was
26 compared with 23 at the end of 1967, 21 (19) of these were from other London Boroughs. 2
(3) Islington patients were in residence at Hurlingham Lodge Hostel in the London Borough of
Hammersmith.
Patients assisted for the first time with:Beds

Patients at the end of the year receiving extra nourishment (Council and Care Committee)

HOME VISITING - by health visitors
Total visits (including contacts; but excluding unsuccessful visits) 2953 (3078).
DIMENSIONAL. THERAPY:-

Total number of visits made to patients in their own homes 1,474 (1,521)
CHEST CLINICS
Patients could be referred, or persons could attend, for examination to the following
centres;-
Islington Chest Clinic, St. Mary's Wing, Whittington Hospital, N.19.
St. Pancras Chest Clinic, Margaret Street, St. Marylebone, W.1.
Mass X-ray Unit of the North West Metropolitan Regional Hospital Board, 32 Drayton Park,N. 5.
