Water Supplies
The Metropolitan Water Board continues to be the responsible Authority for the
supply of water to Islington, The supply is satisfactory both in regard to quality and
quantity
Two samples were taken from the mains supply for bacteriological examination and
one for chemical analysis, and were found to be satisfactory.
In regard to one block of privately owned dwellings, a report was received of a
contamination of the drinking water due to a disinfectant or similar liquid being
poured into the storage tank In conjunction with the Metropolitan Water Board, immediate
steps were taken to cleanse the cistern and connected service pipes, The person who did
the act was subsequently traced and dealt with by the Police
There are 47,310 dwellings in the Borough supplied directly from water mains which
serve a population of 228833,
Public Health (London) Act, 1936 - Section 95
1 45 Applications were received for Water Certificates and 45 Certificates were
issued in respect of 359 dwellings
2 64 Notices were served under this Section requiring the provision of water supplies
to tenement houses Eighteen water supplies were provided and 109 were improved during
the year
