From the above table it will be observed that the incidence of tuberculosis is
extremely low. This is due to the eradication of tuberculosis programme being carried
out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
There was one case of generalised Xanthosis.
Three carcases affected with Cysticercus Bovis were received from another area and
treated by refrigeration under the supervision of the Inspector concerned. After being kept
at a temperature below 14°F. for a period of not less than 3 weeks, they were released.
All diseased or unfit meat was disposed of for use as knacker's meat or in the manu
facture of all animal feeding preparations.
Of the 800 horses slaughtered forehuman consumption, 686 were intended for export.

Slaughtermen's Licences
During the year one new Licence was issued, and ten Licences were renewed and were
current at 31st December.
Export Certificates - Food
24 Export Certificates were issued. The food consisted mainly of tinned and bottled
meats (boneless chicken, ox tongue, ham, etc.), soups, ox tongue and ham spreads. The
majority of the food went to Canada (8) U.S.A. (7); other countries were Australia (2)
Saudi Arabia (2), Trinidad (2), Jordan (1), Portugal (1), and Sweden (1).
