(b) Sewer Treatments
Three sewer treatments were carried out this year with the use of Fluoroacetamide
(1081). As this is a direct poison no pre-baiting was necessary and no
record of takes were made. Details of these treatments are as follows:-

The co-operation of the Borough Engineer and his staff is appreciated.
Water supplies
(a) The Metropolitan Water Board is the responsible Authority for the supply of water
to this Borough. The supply is satisfactory both in regard to quality and quantity.
Four samples were taken from the mains supply, two for bacteriological examination
and two for chemical analysis. All were reported to be satisfactory.
The storage cistern in a block of flats was reported to be most unsatisfactory.
Complaints that red worms were found in water drawn from this source were confirmed.
The cistern in question was renewed and subsequent samples taken by the Metropolitan
Water Board, who reported that the results indicated that the water was of satisfactory
hygienic quality and physical appearance and up to the standard of the
Board's mains. There are 46,853 dwellings in the Borough supplied directly from
water mains, which serve a population of 228,833 (Census 1961).
Public Health (London) Act 1936 Section 95
(1) 67 applications were received for Water Certificates and 67 Certificates were issued
in respect of 404 dwellings.
(2) 14 Notices were served under this section requiring the provision of water supplies
to tenement houses. 11 water supplies were provided and 7 improved during the year.
(b) Well Water
Of the 28 bore-holes or wells known to exist in the Borough nineteen continue to be
unused, being effectively sealed. Four of the remaining wells are still out of use.
Seven samples were taken, three for chemical analysis and four for bacteriological
examination. Whilst the results indicated that the water could not be considered
free from pollution chemically the bacteriological reports were satisfactory. The
water from these wells is used solely for industrial purposes.
(c) Water Supplies-Miscellaneous
Three samples of sub-soil water were taken.
Four samples were taken of the sub-soil water at Trent Park Cemetery.
