The number of condemnation certificates issued was 1413.
Most of the above food was condemned upon renuest by the respective owners,
but on certain occasions it was necessary for the Inspector to seize food and
remove it in order to have it dealt with as provided for by Section 9 of the
Pood and Drugs Act, 1955. Details of the result of subsequent legal action taken
appear on pages 64-67.
Sampling.
691 samples (179 formal and 512 informal) were submitted to the Public
Analyst for examination. Of these 34 (or 4.92 per cent.) were adulterated, as
shown in the summary given below. Iricluded in the number of informal samples
were two samples of margarine taken for vitamin content and reported as satisfactory.
A number of adverse reports relate to samples which were the subject
of complaint and not taken from routine sampling.
