The highest fatality rates in both measles and whooping cough are in children
under the age of one year. In children under one with whooping cough, approximately
one case in 18 is fatal, which is over four times the corresponding rate for
measles.
59.8 per cent. of all cases of whooping cough and 54.7 per cent, of all cases of
measles occur in children 1-5 years. Although it is still the subject of medical
enquiry, whooping cough vaccination is being increasingly requested by parents.
