MUNICIPAL HEALTH VISITORS:
One of the Council's Health Visitors has been seconded to other work for
the Ministry of Health, and the temporary Health Visitor, who had been appointed in
order to cope with extra work caused through Civil Defence etc., resigned at the end
of August, and no other appointment was made in her place. The normal work of the
Health Visitors had been resumed by the beginning of this year, but visiting gradually
became more difficult owing to the increasing number of women engaged on war-work.
At the end of the year the Ministry of Health urged the use of Health Visitors in a
special drive in connection with the Diphtheria Immunisation of children under 5.
The Health Visitors also had additional work at the Councils Diphtheria Immunisation
Clinics. The Child Protection Visitor took over, in addition to her other work, the
visiting of prospective Daily Guardians and reporting as to the suitability of them
and their homes for registration under the Council's Scheme.

HOME HELPS:
138 cases were attended during the year, the cost to the Council being
£374. 4. 10d.
The number of hours worked by Home Helps was increased in September 1942 from
30 to 40 hours per week, and the rate of pay brought into line with the local rates
of the Joint Industrial Council. This meant an increase in the cost of the services
of a Home Help from 30/11d per, week to 50/5d per week.
The number of approved Home Helps on the Council's Panel become less during
1942, and there were many difficulties in satisfactorily working the scheme.
