am indebted, as in former years, to the Local Unemployment Exchange for figures
showing the principal industries in the Borough of Islington and the numbers there
registered as unemployed at the two exchanges. These figures are particularly
interesting as showing in the various industries enumerated the number of men and
women and juveniles who were unemployed during the 12 months ending midyear
1937.

MARRIAGES.
Marriages, 2,987; Marriage Rate, 20.22.—There were 5,974 persons married,
or 2,987 marriages in 1937, and the marriage rate, that is to say, the number of
persons married per 1,000 of the population, was 20.22. Compared with the previous
year these figures show an increase of 48 in the number of persons married, or of 24
marriages, and of 0 73 per 1.000 in the rate.
